Don't Skip Your Home Inspection

Tip of the week for the military spouse and relocation home buyer - Don't skip your home inspection.  You need to know what is going on inside that property.  Most of the time as a mil spouse or relocation homebuyer you are moving from out of state and may not be aware of certain local environmental concerns in a new geographic area.

An inspector is going to come in and look at:

  • electric
  • plumbing
  • roof
  • attic
  • foundation
  • bix tix items

The inspector will give you an idea of what is going on and can give you an idea of any immediate repairs or updates that will need to be made in the next couple of years.

For example, consider the roof.  How old is it and what stage of life it is in?

You can take the info and negotiate with the seller.  He/she is not obligated to negotiate.  But you may have the leverage to get out of your contract (make sure to coordinate with and get advice from your REALTOR) or you can use it as a maintenance list.

The inspection is there to help you as the homebuyer....even if it is a new build property.
